BOSTON — Brady Tkachuk suffered a lower-body injury while representing the United States in a 2-1 defeat against Sweden during the 4 Nations Face-Off at TD Garden on Monday.

The injury occurred at 5:12 in the first period when Tkachuk lost his footing during a play in the right circle and collided violently with the left leg and skate of Sweden’s goalkeeper Samuel Ersson, knocking the net off its moorings.

Following that incident, Tkachuk managed only a brief shift lasting 10 seconds before exiting the game to head back to the U.S. locker room.

He made a quick return and participated in a skating session during a television timeout. Soon after, he took another brief shift of just 14 seconds at 14:11, but did not return for the remainder of the period, remaining at the far end of the U.S. bench.

Tkachuk was ultimately not seen in the second period, as he was deemed unfit to play.

“Brady clearly had a lower-body issue,” commented U.S. coach Mike Sullivan. “We decided to sit him out more as a precaution at that point. I haven’t received any updates post-game yet, so we will monitor how he reacts, but I don’t expect it to become a significant concern.”
