Last night, Apple unveiled a new support document addressing the migration of purchases between accounts, a feature that long-time Apple users have anticipated for years, if not decades. If you have movies, music, or apps stranded across various iTools/.Mac/MobileMe/iTunes accounts that predate your current one, you can now embark on the intricate process of transferring those items.

“You have the option to transfer apps, music, and other content purchased from Apple on a secondary account to your primary Apple Account,” the document states. This indicates that users may have older accounts associated primarily with specific movies, music, or other purchases that can now be consolidated into their main device-linked account. The migration process occurs on your iPhone or iPad via the Settings app, specifically in the “Media & Purchases” section under your account’s name.

However, a few important caveats should be noted. Transfers cannot be made from or into a child’s account within Family Sharing. Additionally, you can only migrate purchases once a year. There may be complexities if you have music libraries on both accounts, and if you have never made purchases or downloads with your primary account, migration could pose challenges. Please note that this feature is currently unavailable in the EU, UK, or India.
