An American Airlines flight en route from New York to New Delhi changed its course on Sunday, landing in Rome instead.

Flight AA 292 took off from JFK Airport in New York at 8:14 PM on February 22 and arrived at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome at approximately 5:30 PM local time.

The Associated Press reported that, according to an airport official, the specific reason for the flight’s diversion remains undisclosed. However, it was confirmed that thorough inspections would take place after the 199 passengers and crew members exited the aircraft.

In recent events, India faced numerous fake bomb threats in 2024, resulting in multiple emergency landings. Certain threats were communicated via social media platforms, prompting various investigations across the country.

Last October, an Air India flight from Mumbai to New York was redirected to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport following a bomb threat. The plane, which departed at 2 AM, was turned back to New Delhi where safety protocols were enacted to ensure passenger and crew safety. Subsequently, it was determined that the bomb threat was unfounded.
