The preliminary entry list for the 67th annual Daytona 500 features 45 teams vying for a coveted spot in Sunday’s race.

Among the competitors, the 36 teams holding charters are assured their positions in the lineup. Notably, Helio Castroneves, a four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 and driver for Trackhouse Racing, is confident about his participation. Castroneves has two paths: he can secure his race entry through traditional single-car qualifying or by competing in a qualifying duel race. Alternatively, he may qualify as the 41st entry through the Open Exemption Provisional.

Leading the list of non-chartered drivers is Corey LaJoie, who will pilot the No. 01 Ford Mustang for Rick Ware Racing. Justin Allgaier aims to make history by qualifying JR Motorsports for its inaugural Cup Series outing, driving the No. 40 Chevrolet.

The remaining open-driver entries include:

· JJ Yeley in the No. 44 Chevrolet for NY Racing Team

· Martin Truex Jr. driving the No. 56 Toyota with Tricon Garage

· Anthony Alfredo behind the wheel of the No. 62 Chevrolet for Beard Motorsports

· Chandler Smith operating the No. 66 Ford Mustang for Garage 66

· B.J. McLeod piloting the No. 78 Chevrolet with Live Fast Motorsports

· Jimmie Johnson taking the wheel of the No. 84 Toyota for Legacy Motor Club

If Martin Truex Jr. qualifies, it would mark the first Cup Series race for Tricon Garage. This team is collaborating with Joe Gibbs Racing for Truex’s entry, and he’ll be working again with his championship-winning crew chief, Cole Pearn, from the 2017 series.

William Byron, representing Hendrick Motorsports, will be returning as the defending champion of the Daytona 500.
