ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — When Stephen Curry is in the zone from beyond the arc—as he was on Thursday evening—his coach knows the ball will likely find the net.

Curry notched 56 points in Golden State’s 121-115 win over Orlando, sinking 12 three-pointers, including a remarkable shot from beyond midcourt that capped off the first half.

“He’s made so many of those over the past few years. As soon as he released it, I thought, ‘That’s going in,’” stated Warriors coach Steve Kerr. “It really set the tone for the second half.”

In the third quarter, Curry continued his dominance, outscoring the Magic 22-21 in his 1,000th regular-season start.

“Many players contributed to this victory,” Curry remarked, “but it’s great to have a performance like that and enjoy the moment.”

This marked Curry’s 14th game with 50 or more points, and with 24,867 career points, he surpassed Patrick Ewing for 26th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Additionally, he successfully converted 12 of 19 attempts from three-point range, achieving the feat of hitting 10 or more threes for an unprecedented 26th time in his career. Although he fell short of his personal best, his 56 points were just six away.

“It never gets old watching him play, I can assure you of that,” Kerr added. “The fans witnessing tonight, even those from the Magic, recognize they are seeing the greatest shooter of all time and one of the best performers. It’s not merely about the shots falling; it’s also about the elegance of his shooting motion and the boldness of his shooting choices.”

This included the impressive 50-footer just before halftime that provided the Warriors with much-needed momentum.

“In the first half, we struggled, and he kept us in the game,” Draymond Green commented. “He completely took control in the third quarter.”

Curry was just one three-pointer shy of his personal record and continued to build on his legacy of remarkable performances on February 27. He previously scored 54 points with 11 from beyond the arc against the Knicks in 2013 and 46 points against the Thunder in 2016, hitting 12 threes.

“When you have nights like this, they come in all different forms … because you’re in rhythm, and the ball finds you at the right moments,” Curry explained. “However, you must have the footwork, balance, and confidence to shoot under all circumstances and be ready for your opportunity.

“That’s why I practice all types of shots, and on some nights, everything just falls into place.”

Afterward, he tossed his jersey to his mother, who was seated just a few feet away in the stands.

But this night was all about Curry’s exceptional long-range prowess.

“I try nearly every shot at some stage, just to let my creativity flow,” Curry shared. “It’s a way to have fun and test your range, watching the ball go in from various spots on the court.”
