What an electrifying conclusion in Norman! Otega Oweh propelled Kentucky to a thrilling 83-82 victory, sinking a game-winning shot with just 6.1 seconds remaining. Unsurprisingly, the crowd at the Lloyd Noble Center wasn’t pleased with Oweh’s standout performance, expressing their displeasure by booing him and the Kentucky squad as the game came to a close. The intense atmosphere even prompted referees to cancel the postgame handshake line.
As Oweh made his way across the court for his SEC Network postgame interview—after exchanging a few words with former teammates—the Wildcats encountered a raucous reception at the visitor’s tunnel. One fan hurled a beer can at them, just narrowly missing Brandon Garrison’s head.
Garrison, hailing from Oklahoma City and having spent his freshman year at Oklahoma State, was already in an animated mood, nearly getting into a confrontation with Oklahoma players as the final buzzer sounded after he blocked Jeremiah Fears’ last-second shot. Amari Williams had to intervene, guiding Garrison away from Fears and back towards Kentucky’s side of the court.
In his 27 minutes on the court, Garrison contributed significantly, putting up 12 points (5-8 FG, 2-3 3PT), along with 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. Oweh was undeniably the star of the night, amassing 28 points, with 23 coming in the second half. Remarkably, he was instrumental for 21 of Kentucky’s last 23 points and scored the team’s final 16 points in the last 8:38. It was an unforgettable evening for the trio from Oklahoma. Even Jaxson Robinson, who was sidelined during the second half due to a recurring wrist injury, managed to score seven points in the first half.
