Following their impressive Super Bowl championship, the Philadelphia Eagles have emerged as a premier model for success in the NFL. However, the 2024 iteration of the Eagles might not resemble the team that recently celebrated their Super Bowl win. General Manager Howie Roseman hinted to reporters during this week’s NFL Combine that the organization might pursue some surprising strategies in the upcoming offseason.

“Things might appear distinct—some of our decisions may not align with what others expect,” Roseman stated, according to PHLY. “It’s likely that our approach will diverge from conventional wisdom. I encourage our fans to exercise patience as the offseason unfolds. It doesn’t come to a halt after free agency or even the draft.”

Last season, the Eagles defied expectations in numerous respects. They made headlines by signing a running back to a lucrative contract, trading a prominent edge rusher only to replace him with another high-caliber player. They also selected two defensive backs in the early rounds of the draft and invested heavily in their interior offensive linemen after already securing top-paid tackles.

So, what unconventional moves could this offseason entail? Perhaps it involves allocating significant funds to a linebacker. The Eagles have typically been conservative with their investments in off-ball linebackers, but they struck gold last year with Zack Baun on a low-cost deal. As a free agent now, Roseman has hinted at the possibility of retaining him.

“To confine us to a mindset and say we won’t invest because we haven’t historically done so overlooks our commitment to evolution,” he explained, once again via PHLY. “We continuously assess how our choices impact the team, the league, and our role within it.”

This could also mean making surprising roster decisions or even adding another quarterback—something the Eagles have considered in the past. The team is known for its aggressive management of both the roster and salary cap, so when it comes to their future moves, expect the unexpected.
