A couple recently shared a harrowing experience aboard a Qatar Airways flight from Australia to Qatar, where they found themselves seated next to a deceased woman for four hours.
Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin were traveling on a flight from Melbourne to Doha when, approximately 10 hours into the journey, a woman exited the restroom and suddenly collapsed, tragically passing away right in front of them. The couple recounted this distressing event on the Australian news program “A Current Affair.”
“They did their utmost to revive her, but sadly she could not be saved, which was incredibly heartbreaking to witness,” Ring reported.
Following the incident, the flight attendants relocated the woman’s body to an empty seat adjacent to the couple for the remainder of the flight. “They appeared slightly frustrated, then they noticed the available seats next to us. My wife was on one side of me, and we were situated in a row of four,” Ring explained. “They asked if I could move over, and I agreed without hesitation. Then they placed the woman in the seat beside me.”
In a statement to NBC News, Qatar Airways expressed their condolences, saying, “Our deepest sympathies are with the family of the passenger who sadly passed away during the flight.” They further apologized for any distress caused during the incident and mentioned that they are reaching out to the passengers according to their protocols.
The couple reported that they were not permitted to change seats for the duration of the flight and were instructed to remain seated while medical personnel attended to the situation upon landing. Additionally, they stated that Qatar Airways did not provide any support following the incident. “They have a responsibility to care for their customers and staff; we should have been contacted to see if we needed assistance or counseling,” Ring remarked.
Their journey continued towards Venice, Italy, and the couple is making an effort to salvage their vacation. “I’m trying to make the best of a challenging situation, but we are on holiday, so we’re really hoping to enjoy our time,” Colin added.
