Samsung appears to be gearing up to compete with Oppo’s Find N5, as recent leaks suggest that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be only slightly thicker than the current thinnest foldable device. This information comes from detailed renders developed by OnLeaks based on insider data.

According to OnLeaks and Android Headlines, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to measure approximately 4.5mm in thickness when opened. In comparison, the Find N5, recognized as the world’s thinnest book-style foldable, has a depth of 4.2mm. The former record holder, Honor’s Magic V3, stands at 4.4mm.

This slight increase in thickness could place Samsung in an advantageous position in the global market, potentially making the Z Fold 7 the slimmest foldable smartphone available in the US. For context, the existing Z Fold 6 has a thickness of 5.6mm, while Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 5.1mm. The OnePlus Open, at 5.8mm, holds the title for the thickest model, and OnePlus has announced it does not plan to release a new foldable this year.

Details regarding the Z Fold 7’s dimensions when closed remain somewhat ambiguous. Reports indicate that the device will be around 9.5mm thick with the camera bump included, and approximately 9mm without it. However, this information seems inconsistent, as the camera bump appears to exceed 0.5mm in thickness based on recent images, noticeably protruding more than in earlier models.

Interestingly, the Z Fold 7 is anticipated to feature larger dimensions overall, with an 8.2-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch outer screen, both wider than those of its predecessor. This design enhancement might explain how Samsung has managed to incorporate a 4,400mAh battery into a thinner shell.

In terms of performance, Android Headlines speculates that the device will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and will feature an upgraded 200-megapixel main camera. It will also retain the same 10-megapixel telephoto and 12-megapixel ultra-wide cameras found in the Z Fold 6.

The official launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to take place in July 2025, coinciding with the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Flip 7. There have been recent indications that Samsung might also use this event to introduce its first trifold phone. However, leaker Max Jambor recently suggested on Twitter that the trifold device is likely to debut at a later date.
