As Super Bowl LIX approaches, Fox Sports rules analyst Mike Pereira has suggested that the NFL might consider prohibiting the “tush push” during the upcoming offseason. Notably, at least one team is reportedly advocating for this change.

Troy Vincent, the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, informed reporters on Monday that a specific team has submitted a request to outlaw the play, which the Philadelphia Eagles have mastered in recent seasons. While Vincent withheld the name of the team and further details regarding the proposal, it marks another instance where the legality of this play is under scrutiny.

This is not the first occasion where discussions have emerged about eliminating the “tush push,” a maneuver that allows two players to propel the quarterback forward to secure first downs or touchdowns. However, the NFL Competition Committee has yet to address this issue, with chairman Rich McKay confirming that it was not on the agenda during their recent meeting.

If this proposal moves forward to be voted on by league owners, it will require a minimum of 24 affirmative votes for any amendment to be enacted.
