The U.S. rejected a resolution aimed at condemning Russia’s aggression and demanding the immediate withdrawal of its forces from Ukrainian territory.
The resolution, which was advocated by Ukraine, sought to instigate a call for a “comprehensive, lasting, and just peace” while emphasizing accountability for Russia’s war crimes. It marked the three-year anniversary of Russia’s massive invasion, underscoring the ongoing catastrophic repercussions for Ukraine and its influence on global stability.
In contrast, the Trump administration pushed back against the resolution’s strong language, casting its vote against it while proposing an alternative that merely requested an end to hostilities. Although both initiatives ultimately passed, the U.S. decision to align with Russia against a majority of its European allies signaled a notable shift in its foreign policy direction.

This diplomatic drama at the U.N. followed President Trump’s controversial remarks, in which he labeled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “dictator” and inaccurately claimed Ukraine initiated the war.
