While much information about the Pixel 9a has already surfaced, recent leaks—including a hands-on video—have provided further insights into the device’s hardware before its anticipated launch. Unfortunately, the Pixel 9a appears less premium compared to its previous models.
As of now, Google has not confirmed the official release date for the Pixel 9a. However, if the ongoing rumors and leaks hold true, the new model will likely adhere to a proven strategy, delivering high-end performance from the latest flagship components at a more budget-friendly price. Key features may include the Tensor G4 processor, up to 8GB of RAM, a vibrant 120Hz OLED display, and the popular software that has garnered Pixel phones a loyal fanbase.
Cost reduction often necessitates compromises, typically involving the use of less expensive materials in areas such as the frame or chassis. The latest leak, originally shared in a now-removed video but preserved in a post by our colleague Shane Craig, offers a brief look at noticeable hardware alterations across the Pixel 9a. You can view the video below:
Even though the Pixel 9a’s display remains hidden in these leaks, the rear panel of the Obsidian model has a noticeably budget-friendly appearance compared to the 7a and 8a models. Although those earlier devices also underwent material updates, they maintained a more premium look. Moreover, a follow-up update from Craig, citing the original source, explained that despite its somewhat cheap look, the Pixel 9a showcases a nostalgic “Nokia Lumia” plastic feel that is surprisingly pleasant to hold.
The redesign may have shifted focus to the camera bar, presenting a distinct look with unusual plastic rings that differ significantly from the existing camera bar designs of prior Pixel A-series models. The circular plastic ring and the matte texture align more closely with contemporary design trends.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on the Pixel 9a’s design now that we have insights into its physical attributes rather than merely relying on leaked images. Personally, I plan to reserve my final opinion until I can experience the device firsthand, but initial impressions suggest it may not dazzle. Fortunately, the countdown to the anticipated launch in late March is on, so we won’t have to wait long to find out.
