Google has discreetly announced the pricing structure for Veo 2, its innovative video-generating AI model unveiled in December.
According to the company’s pricing information, utilizing Veo 2 will cost users 50 cents per second of generated video. This translates to $30 for one minute or $1,800 for an hour of footage. In comparison, Google DeepMind researcher Jon Barron pointed out that this cost is starkly different from the blockbuster Marvel film “Avengers: Endgame,” which had a reported production budget of $356 million, amounting to approximately $32,000 per second.
It’s important to note that customers won’t necessarily utilize every second of the Veo-generated video they purchase, nor is Veo 2 expected to create feature-length films like the “Avengers” series anytime soon. Google’s announcement emphasized that Veo 2 is designed to produce clips that are two minutes or longer.
For additional context, OpenAI has recently rolled out its Sora video generation model, available to subscribers of the ChatGPT Pro plan, which comes at a monthly fee of $200.
