Hezbollah is set to display its power on Sunday with a grand and extensive funeral for its slain leader, Hassan Nasrallah. This significant event aims to restore the group’s reputation in Lebanon following the recent conflict with Israel.

The funeral is expected to draw tens of thousands from across Lebanon and the wider region, including prominent officials from Iran. It will commence at Beirut’s largest sports stadium located on the southern edge of the capital, which has been festooned with towering posters of Nasrallah alongside slogans pledging to uphold the Shiite Muslim resistance he championed against Israel.

Following the service at the stadium, Nasrallah will be interred at a specially designated location nearby, which will be transformed into a sacred shrine in honor of the deceased leader, as stated by Hezbollah representatives.

Hussein Haj Hassan, a parliament member associated with Hezbollah, emphasized that the funeral is not merely a day of mourning or farewell, but a “day of loyalty and a reaffirmation of our promises to our leader.” He remarked that the event will serve as a declaration to both allies and adversaries that the group remains unyielded and resolute.

He further noted, “Should the challenges escalate, we will respond with unwavering strength.”

The funeral takes place five months after Israel’s assassination of Nasrallah on September 27, when Israeli forces launched around 80 bombs on his bunker located just south of Beirut. His death marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Iranian proxies, significantly impacting Hezbollah, which now finds itself considerably diminished.
