One significant challenge with VR headsets is that users must operate entirely within the device. Apple aims to address this and other limitations of the Vision Pro with the upcoming visionOS 2.4 update, which promises to enhance the user experience for guests and introduce two new applications to help discover new activities and content, whether you are wearing the headset or not.
Currently, finding software for the Vision Pro requires users to don the headset and search from there. However, with the new update and iOS 18.4, this process is set to improve with the introduction of the Apple Vision Pro app for iOS. This new app will enable users to browse the visionOS App Store, install applications remotely, and queue videos on the headset directly from their iPhone. Without this app, users are limited to online recommendations or have to manually navigate this dedicated Apple page for Vision Pro applications.
Sharing your Vision Pro with others can be cumbersome, as it often requires the primary user to set up the headset each time. The new update simplifies the Guest Mode functionality significantly. Now, guests can wear the headset without the owner needing to be involved initially. When a guest puts it on, the owner receives a notification on their iPhone or iPad to approve switching to guest mode. They can then select the apps available to guests and decide whether to use AirPlay to share what the guest is viewing, similar to how Apple staff facilitate in-store demonstrations.
In theory, if someone in your household frequently uses your Vision Pro, this improvement speeds up the process for them. However, Apple still maintains a 30-day limit on saved guest profiles, meaning occasional users will need to navigate through the setup again. Nevertheless, this change marks a significant enhancement over the original sharing experience of the Vision Pro.
Users will also have the convenience of accessing their headset’s details, such as the serial number, from the app, eliminating the need to search within the headset or scour through their iPhone’s Apple Account settings. Additionally, those requiring prescription lenses can easily access and store their App Clip code for ZEISS Optical Inserts within the app. Vision Pro owners will receive this app automatically with the download of iOS 18.4, while non-owners can also find it on the App Store.
Moreover, Apple is launching an exciting new application called Spatial Gallery. This app is a curated collection of spatial images, videos, and panoramas, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes content from Apple TV series such as Severance and Shrinking. The goal is to highlight and utilize the full potential of the Vision Pro. This app will be made available to Vision Pro users upon the release of visionOS 2.4 in April.
