Amazon is set to shut down its Android app store on August 20 of this year. The company has issued a notification to developers stating that new app submissions will no longer be accepted.

According to information on their support page, Amazon will also be phasing out its digital currency, Amazon Coins, which users could employ to buy games and applications from the app store.

“Effective August 20, 2025, the Amazon Appstore will no longer be available on your Android devices. Additionally, we will end the Amazon Coins program on the same date,” the company noted on a support page.

Amazon announced that all users holding Amazon Coins as of August 20 will receive a refund.

The app store will remain operational on Amazon’s devices, like Fire TV and Fire Tablet, despite the discontinuation on Android.

The company has not yet provided further insights into the reasons behind the closure of the app store.

Since 2011, Amazon has aimed to challenge Google by creating an alternative app store ecosystem. Additionally, the app store was part of the unsuccessful Fire Phone initiative.

Last year, Amazon also indicated that it would terminate support for its app store on Windows, which had enabled users to access Android apps since March 5, 2025. This program initially launched in 2021; the program for Windows began then.
