In a press release issued on Tuesday evening, the Holy See Press Office announced that Pope Francis is currently battling double pneumonia, though he “remains in good spirits.”

The update revealed that the Pope’s situation is being closely monitored, as "laboratory tests, chest X-rays, and the clinical status of the Holy Father continue to show a complex picture." This information comes following his hospitalization on Friday, where he received treatment for bronchitis.
The statement elaborated that the Pope is suffering from a "polymicrobial infection" related to bronchiectasis and asthmatic bronchitis, which has necessitated the use of corticosteroids and antibiotics, complicating the treatment process.
A follow-up chest CT scan conducted earlier today, as directed by the Vatican’s medical team alongside the staff at the “A. Gemelli” Polyclinic Foundation, confirmed the presence of bilateral pneumonia, prompting the need for additional medications.
Despite these health challenges, the press release emphasized that “Pope Francis remains in good spirits.”
The statement concluded by noting that the Pope has received the Eucharist and spent the day alternating between rest, prayer, and reading. He has expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support during this time and has kindly requested continued prayers on his behalf.
