A recent rendering brings to life a potential design for the iPhone 17 Pro, featuring a full-width camera module that replaces the traditional offset square design.
The 3D artist and developer Asher Dipprey initially presented these visuals in a video available exclusively to his Patreon supporters.
Historically, the Pro models have showcased a square camera module positioned on the left side of the device, organized in a triangular lens formation. However, emerging reports indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro will shift away from this style, opting for a camera bump that stretches nearly the entire width of the phone while maintaining the triangular lens layout.
In Dipprey’s visualization, featuring a version in Space Black, the camera bump displays an asymmetrical design, with a more substantial gap on the left side compared to the right.
The visuals reportedly draw inspiration from a CAD image that surfaced last month. Leaker Majin Bu indicated that the image might be fabricated—a sentiment echoed by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman—though it seems to mirror the overall aesthetic of authentic CAD images.
After evaluating an alleged CAD image of the iPhone 17 Pro, designers I consulted warned it was likely counterfeit. Nevertheless, even if it’s not genuine, it should reflect the CAD designs being tested for the upcoming models.
Majin Bu has a mixed track record for leaks, having accurately predicted details such as the new Desert Titanium color for the iPhone 16 Pro.
Initial reactions to this proposed design have been largely unfavorable. While Dipprey’s images present a sleek appearance, he describes the overall design as “tolerable.”
Dipprey is also the creator of Radiance, a free app designed to help users craft their own wallpapers.
9to5Mac’s Perspective
This is possibly the clearest look yet at the features that previous reports have alluded to, resembling what is purportedly depicted in CAD images. Nevertheless, a significant amount of speculation remains in translating design features into workable renderings.
Personally, I find that this initial glimpse at a new design may often feel off-putting, but I genuinely think this design appears … well, uninspiring. What are your thoughts? We invite you to share your opinions in the comments.
