Frenkie de Jong expressed his satisfaction with Barcelona reclaiming the top position in La Liga, but he acknowledged that the journey toward the championship is far from over.
Following Barcelona’s recent victory against Rayo Vallecano, Hansi Flick’s squad has surpassed Real Madrid in the standings, leading on goal difference.
De Jong is pleased with the current standings, yet he emphasized that it’s too early to celebrate, urging his teammates to enhance their performances.
“We are delighted with the win. It’s nice to be at the top, but our goal is to stay there until the season ends,” he stated during the press conference. “We’re all very close in the standings; there’s no reason to celebrate just yet, but it’s encouraging to see ourselves leading.”
“Rayo is a strong side; they apply effective pressure. We found it challenging to maintain possession, which is credit to them. While this wasn’t our finest performance, we must secure victories in these matches if we aim for success at the season’s conclusion.”
“We’ve created opportunities and situations where better execution could have greatly improved our chances. Keeping a clean sheet is a positive takeaway that boosts our confidence. Moving forward, we need to step up our game.”
The Dutch midfielder started once again on Monday night, and he seems to have a preferred spot in Hansi Flick’s lineup over Marc Casado at this time.
