The number of Influenza A cases is increasing in Western Nebraska, prompting the Panhandle Public Health District (PPHD) to advise residents to take precautions to curb the outbreak.
Jessica Davies, the Director of PPHD, highlights that influenza can lead to a range of illnesses, from mild to severe, and in some cases, it can be fatal. She emphasizes that the symptoms of the flu tend to appear rapidly.
Recently, officials from Hemingford Public School noted that both students and staff were showing significant signs of illness. In response, faculty members dedicated Thursday to a thorough cleaning and sanitization of the school facilities.
Flu symptoms may vary widely and include fever, cough, extreme fatigue, muscle aches, as well as severe instances of vomiting and diarrhea.
Davies advises anyone who tests positive for Influenza A to stay home until they have been free of fever for at least 24 hours without the assistance of fever-reducing medications.
