Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo has officially signed a four-year contract extension with the Arizona Diamondbacks, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Monday.
This lucrative deal is valued at approximately $45 million, which includes a $5 million signing bonus and a $15 million club option for a potential fifth year in the 2030 season. Additionally, the agreement includes performance-based incentives contingent on Perdomo finishing in the top 10 for MVP votes throughout the contract period, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
At 25 years old, Perdomo is earning $2.55 million this season after the Diamondbacks and the player settled on compensation, avoiding arbitration. This new contract not only buys out his next two years of arbitration eligibility but also adds two additional seasons to his tenure with the team.
Perdomo has been a key player for Arizona at shortstop since his rookie year in 2022. However, he faced challenges in the 2024 season, appearing in only 98 games due to a two-month stint on the injured list suffered from a meniscus tear.
During those 98 games, he posted a solid batting line of .273/.344/.374, accumulating 37 RBIs, 26 extra-base hits, and nine stolen bases over 388 plate appearances.
In 2023, he earned an All-Star selection by achieving a personal best with 100 hits, alongside 47 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Notably, he had an impressive eight-game hitting streak during the Diamondbacks’ playoff journey, contributing to the team’s first World Series appearance since 2001.
Beyond his on-field performance, Perdomo has also emerged as a leader both in the locker room and during games. He is now among the young talents, including outfielder Corbin Carroll, whom the D-backs have signed to contract extensions over the past three spring training seasons.
