Stellar Blade Developer Shift Up Achieves Record Financial Success

Shift Up, the studio behind the acclaimed game Stellar Blade, has experienced an unprecedented financial milestone, generating an impressive $43 million in royalties from the title. Anticipation is building for the PC release, which is projected to surpass sales of the original PlayStation 5 version.

According to a report from Game World Observer, Shift Up has published its 2024 financial overview, revealing total revenues of $151.4 million—a remarkable 30.4% increase compared to the previous year. Notably, Stellar Blade royalties made up a significant portion of this total.

Shift Up remains optimistic about future sales. They predict that the PC version will outperform the console edition, particularly in the Asian gaming market. Additionally, the developer is set to unveil its upcoming game, titled Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. However, this does not seem to be the long-awaited sequel to Stellar Blade that many fans have been hoping for.

Project Witches was announced in 2024 shortly after the PS5 launch of Stellar Blade, well before any sequel momentum could build. Nonetheless, Shift Up has indicated that they are considering the possibility of developing another game within the Stellar Blade franchise.

In Stellar Blade, players assume the role of Eve, who must combat mysterious invaders to reclaim Earth through dynamic action RPG gameplay. The game received a favorable rating of 7/10 from IGN and quickly gained popularity, selling over a million copies within a short time frame.

IGN’s review noted that while Stellar Blade excels in key areas essential for an action title, it is hindered by uninspired characters, a mediocre storyline, and some frustrating RPG mechanics that prevent it from joining the ranks of the genre’s finest.
