On Sunday, former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito took to Twitter following comments from his ex-teammate Jonathan Martin. Martin, who had previously accused Incognito of bullying in a controversy that resulted in Incognito’s suspension from the NFL, stated to ESPN that he never felt bullied during their time together.

Incognito responded vigorously, tweeting, “He couldn’t handle the NFL, so he left, and his mom pointed the finger at me. The mainstream media ran with this false narrative for far too long. It’s disappointing to see it was all fabricated! They misled to safeguard his financial interests. He quit, and the team was justified in reclaiming his money. His mother was the one who initiated the bullying story with @espn and @AdamSchefter to prevent the @MiamiDolphins from pursuing his signing bonus!”

Incognito was handed an indefinite suspension towards the end of the 2013 season, which carried into 2014 after accusations of harassment against Martin, a second-round draft pick in 2012.

A comprehensive report by NFL investigator Ted Wells, known as the Bullygate report, detailed that Martin experienced a “pattern of harassment,” including racist slurs and inappropriate messages aimed at his family, allegedly from Incognito and fellow offensive linemen John Jerry and Mike Pouncey.

Despite the report’s findings, Martin expressed regret to ESPN last March about his involvement, stating, “My greatest regret, to this day, is participating in that circus.”

While discussing the matter, Martin’s mother got involved, and although he claimed, “she wasn’t trying to harm me,” he now perceives that her interpretation of events differed from his own.

“I never believed for a moment that I was bullied,” Martin proclaimed to ESPN. “This is a story I’ve been trying to rectify for the past decade.”

Incognito leveraged Martin’s remarks to assert his own innocence while also critiquing Martin’s family and the media.

He reacted to a post claiming that the bullying saga was fabricated, stating, “Concocted by Jonathan Martin’s parents!”

Incognito accused Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio of trying to sabotage his career, and he also took jabs at ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Joe Schad from the Palm Beach Post.

Incognito tweeted to Florio, “You tried to destroy my career over a falsehood! Now, a decade later, Jonathan Martin admits he was never bullied. His mother propagated the bullying narrative to the media.” He emphasized, “Martin never bought into the stance his camp was taking during the Wells investigation. The NFL and the media embraced a misleading narrative that ruined lives and moved on. @ProFootballTalk.”

Incognito, who was part of the Dolphins from 2010 to 2013, also posted several pictures with Martin that seemed to mock the allegations of bullying.

One image showed Incognito and Martin pointing at Pouncey, who was draped in a blanket in a buggy in Indianapolis. Another captured the trio sharing drinks, while a third included all three players, and the final one portrayed Incognito and Pouncey appearing to exit a bar.

While Martin’s perspective may have shifted over the last decade, Incognito still faces serious allegations. Martin’s father, Gus, played a 2013 voicemail from Incognito to ESPN, which included disturbing threats and slurs against his son.
