Today, Delhi experienced a powerful earthquake, with many locals claiming it was the most intense tremor they have ever felt. Reports indicate that the shaking was not confined to the capital but also affected other northern regions of India, according to coverage by India Today.

The earthquake registered a magnitude of 4.0 and occurred approximately 4 kilometers southwest of New Delhi, lasting for just a few seconds. India’s National Center for Seismology confirmed via social media that the quake struck at 5:36 AM local time, with a depth of 5 kilometers.

Startled residents awoke to the unsettling sensation of their homes trembling, and thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries or casualties thus far. Delhi Police urged the public to stay safe, reminding them that they can call #Dial112 for emergency assistance.

Many residents took to social media to share their experiences. One local expressed their relief, saying, "Massive tremors were felt just a few minutes ago in Delhi, waking us from sleep… I hope everyone is safe." Another individual commented, “This was by far the strongest earthquake I’ve felt in Delhi. What was that?”

Images shared on social media captured the aftermath, with reports describing the tremors as some of the worst in recent memories for Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region.

This earthquake follows closely on the heels of a tragic incident at New Delhi’s railway station, where a stampede resulted in the deaths of at least 15 individuals, including ten women and three children. Thousands of devotees were waiting to board trains heading to Prayagraj City for the Maha Kumbh festival when the chaos unfolded. Footage revealed panic as crowds surged, and police along with rescue teams worked to manage the situation.

In the wake of the stampede, India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, expressed his sorrow on social media, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared condolences and called for support to those affected.

This sequence of distressing events has undoubtedly left a profound impact on the Delhi populace, who are now seeking safety and stability in the wake of such anxieties.
