HONG KONG (AP) — The adorable twin panda cubs, just six months old, captured the hearts of fans during their debut public appearance in Hong Kong on Sunday.
Born on August 15, these little ones are the first giant panda cubs to be born in Hong Kong. They reside at Ocean Park alongside their parents and two other giant pandas that were brought from mainland China last year.
Onlookers gathered at the theme park to catch a glimpse of the charming cubs as they playfully climbed a tree or relaxed on a swing, all while their caretakers looked on.
A variety of panda-themed merchandise was available for fans eager to take home a piece of their experience.
The twin cubs are currently without official names, being affectionately referred to as “Elder Sister” and “Little Brother.” Following an event attended by Hong Kong leader John Lee and other officials, a public naming competition was launched on Saturday. Residents can submit their name suggestions through the park’s website, with the final names to be unveiled in the coming months.
Visitors have the opportunity to see the cubs for five hours each day, or they may opt for an exclusive early access experience at a cost of 1,500 Hong Kong dollars (approximately $190).
The birth of these cubs has increased Hong Kong’s population of pandas in captivity, making it home to the largest number of such animals outside mainland China.
