LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department has confirmed that a skunk found in the area has tested positive for rabies.

The skunk was reported by a local resident earlier this week in the Stillwater Road neighborhood.

In response to this finding, health officials put up signs in the vicinity on Friday to alert community members about the situation.

Fortunately, there has been no reported human exposure to the skunk; however, a dog that came into contact with it will undergo a 45-day quarantine as a precaution.

Health officials are urging pet owners to ensure their animals are up to date with rabies vaccinations.
