A heartfelt message from the family of Greg Sharpe, the renowned play-by-play announcer for the Huskers Radio Network’s football and baseball teams since 2008:
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Greg on Friday. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, as well as an exceptional broadcaster. For the past 17 seasons, his enthusiasm and dedication to Husker football and baseball brought joy to countless fans. We take solace in knowing that his legacy will endure through the memorable moments he captured and the bonds he forged with those around him.
To the public, Greg was known for his powerful voice and vibrant spirit, but those closest to him cherished his unwavering loyalty and commitment.
Over the past year, Greg bravely faced a public battle with pancreatic cancer. Despite the daunting diagnosis, he chose to embrace life without fear, drawing strength from his faith, family, and love for broadcasting Husker athletics. The support from the University of Nebraska, Playfly Sports, and the incredible Husker Nation provided him with the encouragement he needed to continue his fight with resilience.
The overwhelming love and support he received during this challenging time profoundly impacted both Greg and our family. We are eternally thankful to Husker supporters across the nation for their letters, gifts, and, most importantly, their prayers.
Having Greg in our lives has enriched us all.
