The Boston Red Sox have officially announced the signing of Alex Bregman as of Saturday morning.

In their press release, the organization confirmed the three-year contract which extends through the 2027 season. Bregman, now 30 years old, will don the number 2 jersey, previously worn by Dominic Smith last season. It’s worth noting that the late Jerry Remy famously wore this number from 1978 to 1984.

As part of the roster adjustments, left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval has been placed on the 60-day injured list, making space for Bregman’s addition to the 40-man roster.

Reports indicated that the Red Sox and Bregman came to a mutual agreement on a lucrative three-year deal valued at $120 million on Wednesday. This contract is said to contain significant details, including deferrals and opt-out clauses. The two-time World Series champion made his way to Fort Myers, Florida, on Friday and shared a touching farewell note to the Houston Astros prior to the official announcement of his signing.

A news conference is scheduled for Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET at Fenway South, where Bregman will be joined by team president Sam Kennedy, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, manager Alex Cora, and his agent Scott Boras.
