Comedian Jon Stewart criticized MSNBC host Jen Psaki for labeling podcasters Joe Rogan and Theo Von as part of the “right-wing media ecosystem.”
During a segment on Stewart’s “The Weekly Show,” the two discussed the challenges faced by political progressives in the evolving media environment compared to their conservative counterparts.
Stewart expressed, “Conservatives are really outpacing progressives in media right now.” He emphasized the need for progressives to strategically organize their media and think tanks to compete effectively.
In response, Psaki remarked, “There isn’t a left-leaning ecosystem comparable to that of the right,” mentioning Joe Rogan and Theo Von—who both interviewed Trump leading up to the election—as examples of conservative media figures.
Stewart countered, expressing, “I would place them more in the libertarian comedic sphere. Their shows often lean towards light-hearted banter rather than serious political commentary.”
Psaki, age 46, agreed that the formats of those shows often stray from political discourse but maintained that they contribute to a broader trend of independent media leaning right.
Earlier in the week, Rogan refuted claims from the Harris campaign that he was reluctant to host the former vice president on his podcast before the election.
Team Harris suggested that Rogan’s refusal was the reason for her lack of appearance, a claim he firmly denied. “It’s just normal political nonsense. They lie to protect themselves. I would have welcomed her on the podcast, and my intention was to air both candidate interviews simultaneously,” Rogan shared during a conversation with MTV host Adam Curry.
“I would have been happy to engage in a conversation with her. Not that I need to hold the vice president’s hand,” he added.
Curry quipped, “You might have voted for her.”
Rogan chuckled in response, “No, that wasn’t going to happen. I wasn’t voting for her.”
The episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” featuring President Trump attracted millions of views, with speculation that the former “Fear Factor” host might visit Mar-a-Lago for a second interview with the former president.
Trump was also a guest on Theo Von’s hit “Last Weekend” podcast, which similarly drew a massive audience.
