Hyundai is now rolling out the Ioniq 5 models equipped with NACS (J3400) ports from its Savannah, Georgia factory. This makes Hyundai the first automaker, besides Tesla, to offer electric vehicles with these native charging ports. Plus, we have exciting news for current Hyundai EV owners: if your vehicle features a CCS1 port, you will soon be eligible to receive a complimentary CCS1-NACS adapter next month.

While Hyundai wasn’t the initial OEM to partner with Tesla for access to the Supercharger network, it leads the pack over companies like Ford, General Motors, and Rivian in transitioning to Tesla-style charging ports. Current owners will also gain access to the extensive charging network but will need an adapter to utilize the smaller NACS connectors.

Hyundai informed us that these adapters will be available next month and will be provided at no cost, or “free as in beer”. All you need is your vehicle identification number (VIN); the automaker will facilitate the adapter order through its website launching in March.

Last year, Ford similarly promised free NACS adapters for its EV customers, although this offer was short-lived, ending in late June when they began charging $200. Meanwhile, GM didn’t offer any free adapters and instead charges $225 for the NACS adapter.
