The Charlotte Hornets are actively communicating with the NBA regarding their intent to dispute the Los Angeles Lakers’ recent decision on center Mark Williams, who did not pass his physical exam, as reported by ESPN late Monday night.

The Hornets are evaluating their options and contemplating potential actions to contest the Lakers’ assessment or collaborate with the league office for alternate solutions, sources indicate.

Last week, Williams was involved in a trade with the Lakers, which included rookie Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish, along with a pick swap in 2030 and the Lakers’ first-round pick in 2031. However, just two days after the trade deadline, this agreement was revoked due to Williams’ failed physical evaluation.

According to sources, Williams’ physical revealed several medical concerns. Over the past three seasons, the center has missed approximately 60% of the Hornets’ games, primarily due to different injuries affecting his back and foot.

Since the trade deadline has lapsed, the terms of the trade were not modified to reflect any new medical insights the Lakers might have gleaned regarding Williams’ condition.

All players involved have returned to their original teams but have not yet participated in any games; Knecht, Reddish, and Williams were all declared inactive this past Monday.

In a recent statement, the Hornets expressed their enthusiasm about bringing Williams back into the fold.
