Igloo has initiated a recall of over 1 million coolers distributed throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico due to a defect in the handle that has led to several fingertip injuries, some of which resulted in amputations.

The recalled “Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers” feature a tow handle that can inadvertently pinch users’ fingers against the body of the cooler, posing serious risks including potential amputations and other crushing injuries, as noted in a recent recall announcement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

According to the CPSC, Igloo has reported 12 injury incidents in the United States, including fingertip amputations, fractures, and cuts. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in Canada or Mexico.

Customers who own the affected coolers are advised to stop using them right away and to reach out to Igloo for a complimentary replacement handle.

The recalled coolers were sold at prominent retailers such as Costco, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Amazon from 2019 to January 2025, with a price range of $80 to $140. About 1.06 million units were sold in the U.S., in addition to 47,000 in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico.

Consumers can identify the affected coolers by model number and description. These products were available in various colors and displayed the word “IGLOO” on their sides, manufactured in the U.S. before January 2024.
