The recent PlayStation State of Play presentation didn’t quite leave audiences thrilled; many of the showcased titles turned out to be third-party games without exclusivity.

Among the games revealed was Borderlands 4, which introduced a new gameplay trailer and confirmed its release date. With the launch slated for just seven months away, any significant delays at this stage are unlikely.

The timing of Borderlands 4’s release could also hint at the much-anticipated GTA 6 launch window. While it may sound unusual, I believe it narrows down the potential release period significantly.

Borderlands 4 is set to launch on September 23, 2025. In addition to promises made to fans, Take Two has consistently informed investors that GTA 6 is expected to arrive in Fall 2025. Naturally, they wouldn’t want to disappoint their stakeholders.

It’s worth noting that Take Two has acquired Gearbox from Embracer, making Borderlands 4 a significant title under their umbrella. Given the franchise’s storied history, fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel for six years. However, it still doesn’t compare to the gravity of a GTA release.

The takeaway here is that September is likely ruled out for GTA 6. Even if it were to launch a couple of weeks before Borderlands 4, it would still overshadow the latter considering the monumental scale of GTA.

This trend suggests that October might be the target month for GTA 6, allowing both titles enough space to shine. If so, we could see a mid-October release at the earliest. This significantly shortens the “Fall 2025” timeframe to a mere month and a half rather than spanning three months, while December appears off the table since they’ve clearly specified “Fall.”

Regarding other titles in the same timeframe, it appears that Take Two and Rockstar have no significant competitors. The only consideration for them would be to ensure that their own game, Borderlands 4, is not overshadowed by the colossal release of GTA 6.

Personally, I still have a hunch that the release of GTA 6 could slip into 2026. If that occurs, it might still debut before the fiscal year concludes, which wouldn’t necessarily upset investors too much. Take Two has been steadfast about the Fall 2025 date for a while, but if it holds true, it leaves us with a more concise window for speculation.
