
MERCER COUNTY — The Miami Valley has identified Ohio’s first human case of bird flu in 2025.

According to reports by News Center 7 at 11:00 and News Center 7 Daybreak, this case involves an individual in Mercer County.

The victim, a farm worker, became infected after coming into contact with deceased commercial poultry, as stated by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH).
Transmission of bird flu to humans can occur through exposure to a person’s eyes, nose, or mouth, or via inhalation of the virus.
The ODH has advised residents to steer clear of direct contact with wild birds or any sick or deceased poultry.
As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the overall risk of bird flu for the wider population remains low.
